Toronto Mayoral By-Election

The Toronto mayoral by-election will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023, to elect a candidate to serve as the mayor of Toronto for the remainder of the 2022–2026 city council term following the resignation of Mayor John Tory. The mayor of Toronto has significant influence over the city’s transportation policies and regulations, which can directly impact the taxi industry. For example, the mayor of Toronto has the authority to appoint members of the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) board, which oversees the city’s public transit system.

The TTC board has the power to make decisions about the regulation of the taxi industry in Toronto, such as setting fares and issuing licenses. In addition, the mayor of Toronto also has the ability to advocate for policies and initiatives that may impact the taxi industry, such as supporting the development of ride-sharing regulations or increasing investment in public transit.

ATOOL is working to support a successful mayoral candidate in order to ensure that the future interests of the taxi industry are represented in the city’s transportation policies and decisions.
